Man held for attacks on mum's home

A SHERIFF questioned the sanity of a man who terrified his own mother in two bizarre incidents.

Sheriff Derek O'Carroll called for background reports, including a psychiatric assessment, for 40-year-old Mark McLean.

McLean, of East Calder, West Lothian, pleaded guilty to two breaches of the peace, two vandalism charges and breaching a bail condition at Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday.

Refusing bail, Sheriff O'Carroll told McLean: "I have reason to be concerned for the safety of the public."

Paul Beaton, prosecuting, said the accused turned up at his mother's house on August 9 and used a brick to smash his way through the back door. Police were again called to Mrs McLean's home on November 3 after the accused shook the door so hard that he broke the handle.

McLean's lawyer said his client had suffered mental health problems and had been struck off his GP's list.
