Man found guilty of Edinburgh flat murder

Kevin Addison was found guilty of the murder of Dodou Leigh, 30, who was shot dead in a flat in the Leith area of Edinburgh on December 4.

Addison shot Mr Leigh as a result of a dispute between the pair, before fleeing the flat in Hawkhill Close. Mr Leigh died in the flat as a result of his injuries.

A murder inquiry was launched and Addison was arrested days later as a result of inquiries carried out by the Major Investigation Team.

He was found guilty of murder after a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh today.

Detective Inspector Scott Cunningham, from Police Scotland’s Specialist Crime Division, said: “Dodou Leigh was shot by Kevin Addison, who fled the scene, leaving his victim to bleed to death within the flat.

“His murder caused considerable concern within the community and a significant amount of resources were devoted towards tracing Addison.

“Detectives from the Major Investigation Team undertook extensive inquiries, including the use of CCTV and other investigative techniques, with considerable assistance from the local and Gambian community in Edinburgh, along with partner agencies.

“As a result of these inquiries, Kevin Addison was arrested within a few days of the shooting.

“It is my sincere hope that today’s conviction provides some closure for Dodou Leigh’s family, who have suffered a harrowing ordeal as a result of his death in such violent circumstances.

“I would like to thank them for the assistance they provided to police over the course of our investigation into his murder.

“Police Scotland is committed to tackling violent crime and we will act swiftly to bring those responsible to justice.”
