Man found five times over limit had just got his licence back

A MOTORIST who blocked a major road by parking to sleep when he was nearly five times the limit was so drunk that police officers had to carry him out of the car.

Accountant John Morrison had also wet himself and now faces a prison term after a court heard he had only had his driving licence back for a month after a previous ban.

Morrison, 65, blocked the A85 between Crieff and Perth for 25 minutes as he lay slumped in the driver's seat in an alcohol-induced stupor.

Other motorists who were blocked by his Volvo estate went to investigate and discovered Morrison so drunk he could not be roused. One driver removed the keys from the ignition.

When police officers arrived, Morrison, whose trousers were soaked, still failed to respond and had to be physically lifted from the vehicle. A check on his record revealed that he had been allowed to return to the road only four weeks earlier after completing an 18-month ban for a previous offence.

Morrison, of Crieff, admitted being drunk in charge of his car on the A85 near Highlandman Loan in Perthshire on 8 January, when he appeared at Perth Sheriff Court. His reading 155 mics, compared with the limit of 35.

Sheriff Robert McCreadie said: "Twice this gentleman has appeared on serious road traffic charges. There is clearly a problem."

Sentence was deferred.
