Man falls 120ft from cliffs in Perthshire

EMERGENCY services took part in a major rescue operation yesterday after a man fell 120ft from a cliff.

The man, believed to be in his mid 40s, fell while climbing near Comrie, Perthshire, shortly after 1pm.

Police and ambulance units attended the scene but at first struggled to find him. A spokesman for the ambulance service said paramedics finally located him around 1.45pm but were unable to reach him in a search and rescue helicopter.

He said: "We had reports of a man falling around 120ft, however it's not clear what he fell from. Eventually the crews located the man but it was very difficult to get to him as he had fallen from quite some height.

"We had reports of wrist injuries and a minor chest injury, although an updated message from the crew said he suffered various traumatic injuries.

"We requested a helicopter but it was unable to reach him. We also requested assistance from the Ministry of Defence but they were also unable to reach him.

"Eventually mountain rescue from Killin were requested and were able to get him out and he was airlifted to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow."

"The main problem was reaching the patient rather than the extent of his injuries and it took just over four hours."

The man was said to be in a stable condition last night.

Tayside Police confirmed they had been involved in the incident and that the patient was now in hospital.
