Man dies while swimming in city pool

A MAN in his 70s has died after suffering a suspected heart attack while swimming at Leith Victoria Swim Centre this morning.

Staff pulled him from the pool and performed CPR and he was rushed to hospital by paramedics, but could not be revived.

A spokeswoman for Edinburgh Leisure, which runs the pool, said: "We can confirm that four leisure attendants at Leith Victoria Swim Centre were required to perform emergency first aid on a male in his 70's who was removed from the swimming pool after suffering a suspected heart attack at approximately 07:50 this morning.

"On arrival at the scene, the paramedic team transported the male to hospital.

"The paramedics subsequently commended Edinburgh Leisure staff on the prompt and professional manner in which they responded to this emergency. Edinburgh Leisure would like to extend its deepest ympathies to the friends and family of the individual involved in this incident."
