Man dies in horror crash

A MAN has died and two others were badly injured in a crash in the Capital.

The three-vehicle collision happened at the Maybury Road at around 7.40pm last night.

A 30-year-old man, who was a passenger in a Subaru, died at the scene, while the 28-year-old driver broke his pelvis.

The 46-year-old driver of a Peugeot van was also taken to the ERI with a suspected broken collarbone, while the driver of a third vehicle, a Renault Clio, sustained whiplash.

Police are appealing for information.

The crash happened between the East Craigs and Barnton roundabouts.

Firefighters equipped with hydraulic cutting gear arrived at the scene of the crash within minutes and attempted to remove two men.

Ambulance crew members confirmed the fatality, and said that two casualties were taken to hospital.

A spokesperson for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue said: “We received a call about an incident on Maybury Road at 7.45pm. Our crews were on the scene at 7.52pm with specialist hydraulic cutting equipment and attempted to release two adult males who were trapped in one of the cars.

“We were able to release one of the casualties quite quickly. However, at 8.33pm we were notified by the crew that a fatality had been removed from one of the vehicles.”

Police have confirmed that the vehicles involved were a Renault Clio, a Subaru and a Peugeot Boxter van.

An ambulance spokesperson said: “Three double ambulance crews, as well as two rapid response units were in attendance at the scene of the crash.

“We uplifted two casualties. The first casualty was taken to the Royal Infirmary’s Accident and Emergency department with traumatic injuries reported to be of a serious nature.

“The second casualty had minor injuries.”

A police spokesman issued an appeal for witnesses to the crash to come forward.
