Man dies in fire at protest camp

A man has died following a blaze at a protest camp near Edinburgh.

The fire broke out at Bilston Glen in Midlothian at around 3.30am today.

Lothian and Borders Police said a man is his 20s died and a woman was being treated in hospital.

Bilston Glen has been occupied since 2002 by environmental activists campaigning against the proposed construction of a bypass in the area.

A police statement said: "A joint inquiry with the fire service is being carried out into the circumstances."
