Man dies as van and tipper truck collide on A9

ONE man was killed and another injured in a collision between a van and a tipper truck on the A9 in Perthshire yesterday morning.

The accident happened near the Dalreoch junction, four miles north of Auchterarder, and caused major tailbacks after the northbound carriageway was closed as result of the collision.

The man who died has still to be named by Tayside Police, but was aged 41 and from Kilsyth in North Lanarkshire.

He was the driver of a Renault van which collided with a Leyland Daf tipper truck.

His passenger, a 45-year-old man from Shawhead, North Lanarkshire, escaped with minor injuries, sustaining minor cuts to his leg and chest.

The driver of the tipper truck was not injured in the collision.

A spokeswoman for Tayside Police said: "Officers are in the process of notifying next of kin and have appointed a family liaison officer.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision take place should get in touch with Tayside Police."
