Man dies after North Sea oil rig incident

A MAN has died after an incident on a North Sea oil platform.

Police confirmed that a worker on BP’s Unity platform, in the Forties field, had died following an incident around 4.30am this morning.

It is understood that the death was the result of a fall.

Officers are probing the incident.

A spokesperson said: “Police Scotland were made aware of a death offshore at around 4.40am this morning.

“The incident occurred on the Unity platform and enquiries to establish the circumstances are on-going.”

A spokesperson for BP added: “There was an incident on one of our rigs around 4am.

“We have mobilised our emergency response operations but we have no further information at the moment.”
