Man dies after Crags plunge

A MAN has died after plunging from the crags in Edinburgh.

It was reported that the victim, believed to be in his early 20s, landed just in front of a passer-by who then alerted the emergency services.

The incident happened at lunchtime when the man fell from the 150ft-high Salisbury Crags in Holyrood Park in the middle of the city.

Paramedics battled to save the victim, saying initially his condition was “critical”.

But a police spokesman said shortly after 2pm: “A man has died as a result of a fall from the crags. Initial indications are that it is not suspicious.”

The tragedy happened close to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queen’s official residence in Scotland. The park was full of people enjoying the sunny weather.

A popular path through the park is directly underneath the crags and one walker is understood to have narrowly escaped being hit by the falling man.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We had a female caller on the phone, and he had landed in front of her.”
