Man dies after car and bus collide

A MAN has died following a collision between a car and a bus on the A82 near Drumnadrochit in the Highlands.

The driver, and sole occupant of the car, died at the scene of the crash, which took place shortly after 1pm yesterday.

Two people who were on the bus sustained minor injuries and were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness as a precautionary measure.

The road was closed to traffic in both directions for several hours to allow recovery of the vehicles, and a diversion was set up.

Northern Constabulary said those travelling on the A82 should expect delays.

A spokeswoman for Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue said 15 firefighters were involved in stabilising the vehicle, and had to use cutting equipment to extricate the body of the man from the vehicle. The crews were on the scene for around three hours while the road was cleared. The dead man has not yet been named by police.
