Man detained after stand-off

ARMED police swooped on a block of flats in a West Highland town during a five-hour stand-off at the weekend.

Residents on the Dunollie estate in Oban watched the drama unfold from their windows, after police instructed them to lock their doors and stay inside.

Officers with guns and riot shields, backed by the Strathclyde force's dog unit and helicopter, surrounded the area.
