Man critical after Glasgow assault

A man is critically ill in hospital following an attack near a Glasgow subway station.

The assault happened close to Cessnock underground on Glasgow's southside shortly after midnight.

Police tape cordoned off part of the pavement outside a block of flats at Harley Street and the station.

Around 8am a forensics officer in white overalls entered the cordon while uniformed officers manned the scene.

Commuters were told by police that they could not get into the station.

A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman said: "We received a report at 12.20am that a man had been assaulted in Harley Street close to Cessnock underground station.

"He was taken to the Southern General by ambulance and is in a critical condition."
