Man crashes car to escape from assault

A MOTORIST who was assaulted by a man who climbed into his car crashed into a nearby garden in a bid to escape.

The 20-year-old man had been sitting in his black Volkswagen Golf at around 9pm on Saturday when the man approached the car and opened the driver's door and threatened him.

The suspect demanded the keys for his car, then got into the vehicle and assaulted the driver.

The driver, who had been sitting in his car in Tannadice Avenue in Glasgow, was uninjured. The man who assaulted him walked away from the scene.

Detective Constable John Morrison of Strathclyde Police said yesterday: "This would appear to be an unprovoked attack.. Fortunately, he was uninjured but he was left badly shaken as a result of his ordeal. We are currently reviewing CCTV and carrying out door to door enquires in the area in a bid to catch those responsible for this vicious attack."

In a separate attack a man was left with a broken jaw after he asked three men to stop hassling a woman at around 3.30am on Saturday.

The 36-year-old man was standing at The Maggie snack van on Queen Margaret Drive in the west end of Glasgow when he noticed the men, one of whom seriously assaulted him.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to the Western Infirmary in Glasgow and was later transferred to the Southern General Hospital in the city, before he was released after treatment.
