Man charged with racial abuse on bus

A MAN has been arrested and charged after a mother and her three-month-old baby were racially abused on a bus.

The 50-year-old was charged by officers investigating the incident on a number 22 bus in the Leith area on June 29. The man is set to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on September 14.

It was understood that a man boarded the bus at Great Junction Street, at around 4.15pm, and almost immediately started acting in an abusive manner to other passengers.

He then turned on the 35-year-old woman and while details about the exact nature of his comments were not revealed by police, it is understood they were racially motivated and directed at the child.

Despite several other passengers asking the man to stop, he continued to shout abuse at the terrified mother and baby until he left the bus on Leith Walk, near Dalmeny Street.
