Man charged with murder

A MAN has appeared in court accused of murdering 33-year-old Martin Hughes.

Robert Melvin, 30, faced the charge at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday. Defence solicitor advocate David Allan made no plea or declaration on his behalf and Melvin was remanded in custody.

Mr Hughes, who lived in Wester Hailes Park, died on Monday. Police were called to the area at about 3pm and Mr Hughes was found injured in the street. He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but he later died from his injuries.
