Man charged with threatening Celtic boss Neil Lennon
A 21-year-old man has appeared in court charged with making threats aimed at Celtic manager Neil Lennon on a social networking site.
Christopher Hay appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court yesterday under the new Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012, which came into force on Thursday.
Under section six of the Act he is charged with communicating threatening material to another to carry out a violent or reckless act to cause fear or alarm.
Hay was detained at his address in Kirkintilloch on Monday morning by officers from Strathclyde Police’s major crime and terrorism investigation unit.
Hay made no plea or declaration and was released on bail ahead of a further court appearance.
