Man charged over statue theft

A MAN has been arrested and charged following the theft of a bronze statue of nursery rhyme characters Jack and Jill worth £10,000.

The 29-year-old man is set to appear in court at a later date.

Residents from the Lower Broomieknowe area of Bonnyrigg, Midlothian contacted police after noticing the 5ft garden statue was missing.

A short time later, a scrap metal dealership in the Capital reported it had taken possession of a statue matching its description.
