Man charged with Hamilton street murder

A man has been charged with murder over a fatal street attack in South Lanarkshire.

James Baillie, 41, was assaulted in Buchanan Crescent in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, on July 23.

He suffered a serious head injury and died in Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride four days later.

Mr Baillie’s 64-year-old mother was also injured in the incident.

Darren Johnstone, 31, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court today charged with murder.

Johnstone, from nearby Larkhall, is also accused of assault. He made no plea and was remanded in custody.
