Man charged with assault that fractured victim’s skull

A MAN has been arrested and charged in connection with an assault which left the victim with a fractured skull, cheekbone and jaw.

The 18-year-old man detained by police was set to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday over the serious assault, which took place on August 27.

A 45-year-old man was attacked as he walked towards Bristo Square from the direction of the underpass at 2.30am on that Saturday. Two men approached the victim before one of them punched him, knocking him to the ground and leaving him badly injured.

The 18-year-old’s arrest followed the release earlier this week of a CCTV image by Lothian and Borders Police of two men being sought in connection with the attack.

Police are keen to talk to two men seen on CCTV in the area around the time of the assault, and said that since it was during the Festival, they may not be from the Capital.
