Man charged after deadly drugs found

A MAN has been arrested and charged after police found pills believed to contain a potentially fatal substance.

More than 1700 pink tablets with a distinctive cherry symbol on one side were seized during the search of a property in Gardiner Road, Prestonpans, today.

The pills are linked to a death in the Strathclyde area earlier this month, as well as a number of other deaths in Europe.

Officers are awaiting analysis on the tablets, but it is believed they contain the dangerous substances known as AMT or 5-IT.

Dealer quantities of cocaine were also found during the raid.

The 21-year-old man is due to appear at Haddington Sheriff Court on Monday.

Police said anyone who had consumed the tablet and felt unwell should seek immediate medical attention.
