Man arrested over Kevin Carroll murder

POLICE have confirmed today thst a 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Glasgow underworld figure Kevin Carroll.

The 29-year-old, also know as 'the gerbil', was killed while sitting in the back of an Audi car outside the Asda store in Robroyston, Glasgow, on January 13.

Carroll is understood to have had links with the city's criminal underworld and survived a previous attempt on his life three years ago.

The arrested man is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court tomorrow.

A spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police said: "The arrested man is presently detained in police custody in connection with the death of Kevin Carroll.

"Relatives are aware and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

No further details were released by police.

Police launched a hunt for three masked men after the shooting, which took place in broad daylight.

Two other men who were in the black Audi with Carroll were uninjured.

Horrified shoppers who were in the car park at the time of the shooting were questioned by detectives.

On January 15 police found a getaway car spotted at the scene, which had been set on fire and dumped around six miles from the shooting in Yetts Hole Road, Glenmavis, Airdrie.

Detectives said the car had cloned plates, was stolen in September from the Rutherglen area and originally had the registration AD04 UFC.

Officers also said the plates were missing from the dark-blue Volkswagen Golf when it was found.

On January 29 police confirmed a stash of firearms found behind Coatbridge Library had been used in the shooting.
