Man arrested over Edinburgh sex attack

A MAN has been arrested after a teenager was seriously sexually assaulted, police said yesterday.

The 16-year-old girl had been walking her dog on a footpath in the Crewe Toll area of Edinburgh at about 10pm on Wednesday when she said she was attacked.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Police said: "A 22-year-old man is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday in connection with an alleged serious sexual assault that occurred in the Crewe Toll area of the city on Wednesday, 30 June.

"Police thank the public for their assistance in this incident and ask that any member of the public around that area who has any other information which could assist in this investigation contact the police."

Police on Friday praised the public's response to an appeal for information following the attack and said that the teenage victim had been left "deeply traumatised".
