He was detained after his car smashed into a house in Ancrum Road, Dundee, at about 10.50am this morning and then failed to stop for police officers when required to do so in nearby Buttars Loan.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “As well as colliding with the house, causing substantial damage, the silver Renault Clio he was driving also collided with a parked Mercedes Sprinter van. On arrest, the man was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee as a precaution but he was not believed to be seriously injured.

“The area around the collision site is currently closed while a minor gas leak at the premises is repaired and to allow crash investigators to carry out enquiries at the scene.”

The spokesman added: “Tayside Division would appeal to anyone who saw this vehicle on its journey, from where it was first seen by police in Buttars Loan to the scene of the collision in Ancrum Road, to contact them as they may have information that is useful to enquiries. Anyone who can assist should call 101 or speak to any officer.”
