Man admits to drunken street attack

A TRADESMAN has been given 135 hours of community service after punching a man in the face in a drunken attack.

Jamie Colvine, 29, pleaded guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday to assaulting Rodrigo Coehlo in Rose Street at 9:45pm on 20 February.

The court heard that door stewards at a nearby pub saw Colvine – who appeared to be drunk – shout at Mr Coehlo as he walked along the street before grabbing him by the jacket. The stewards heard Colvine say, "You're the guy, I'm going to punch you".

The court heard that Mr Coehlo pushed Colvine away but fell to the ground in doing so. The victim was getting to his feet when Colvine punched him.

Colvine's defence agent described him as a "highly-skilled" tradesman who would be in the financial position to pay a fine. Sheriff Graeme Warner sentenced Colvine to 135 hours of community service.
