Man, 71, dies in three-vehicle crash in Moray town

POLICE have issued an appeal for witnesses after a 71-year-old was killed when his car was involved in a three-vehicle crash in the centre of a Moray town.

The victim of the accident in Aberlour was yesterday named as Anthony Collins, who lived locally.

His silver Subaru car initially struck a black Chrysler and then an articulated lorry which had been parked on Queens Road, near to the High Street.

The collision happened at 11.40am and Mr Collins, who lived in a cottage two miles from Aberlour, died at the scene.

Alexander Collier, the 63-year-old driver of the Chrysler was uninjured, as was the 40-year-old driver of the lorry.

Inspector Scott Mann, of the Grampian Road Policing Department, said: “Our enquiries are progressing well and our collision investigators have carried out a detailed scene examination. This resulted in closure of part of Queens Road for around five hours.

“We would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision or its immediate aftermath, or indeed anyone who saw a silver car being driven on Queens Road around the time of the collision. We’re aware that there were several pedestrians in the vicinity at that time.”

Mr Collier, of Aberlour, said: “I was going down the road and I heard the bang. He just ran into the back of me.”
