Man, 22, suffers serious injury after an 'unprovoked attack'

A YOUNG man is hospital after being seriously assaulted in an "unprovoked attack", police have said.

The 22-year-old was walking to a friend's house at around 9:30pm on Friday when he was approached by a man on Birnam Place in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire.

His attacker struck him with a bladed weapon, leaving him with a serious shoulder injury.

The suspect, who is described as being around 6ft tall, of slim build, and as having a local accent, then made off along Birnam Place.

The injured man carried on to his friend's house before being taken by ambulance to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride, where his injury was treated.
