Mamma Mia, here Abba go again?

IT WAS the reunion millions of fans worldwide dreamed of though in their hearts feared would never happen.

But now loyal Abba fans can start dusting down their platform shoes, spandex and sequins after it emerged that the Swedish supergroup's most reclusive member has given her blessing to the group reforming.

In her first interview in more than a decade Agnetha Fltskog - at 60 the youngest of the former chart- toppers - said: "I just feel it would be fun to meet, chat about the old days and perhaps perform together.

"A reunion, an occasional opportunity, maybe in connection with a charity event, I believe we could consider it.

"We would not get together again for a tour like the Rolling Stones and other old bands do.

"I think we would all consider a one-off reunion, maybe for a good cause," she told M Magazine, a Swedish publication aimed at older readers.

Abba experts say that Fltskog's plight, as the band member who always tried to shun fame, was summed up by the lyrics of the 1980 hit Super Trouper.

The group, which performed at the Apollo Theatre in Glasgow on a number of occasions, included the lines in the song: "I was sick and tired of everything when I called you last night from Glasgow, all I do is eat and sleep and sing, wishing every show was the last show."

The group, including Bjrn Ulvaeus - Fltskog's ex-husband - Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, shot to overnight fame after winning the 1974 Eurovision song contest with Waterloo.

The band split in 1982. They were offered 650 million to play a 100-date world tour in 2000, but rejected the deal.

They have sold more than 370 million records, with their list of hits including Dancing Queen, Take a Chance on Me, Mamma Mia and Money, Money, Money.

Then last March fans were offered a glimmer of hope about a reunion when former band member Benny Andersson said they could reunite for a one-off show.

But the group later apologised for raising fans' expectations, claiming the comment had been nothing more than a "joke".

Speculation over a comeback mounted after Andersson and Ulvaeus were asked if they would consider a one-off Abba performance that could be beamed around the world.

Despite having previously turned down a raft of lucrative offers to reunite Andersson replied: "Yeah, why not?" During the newspaper interview, he continued: "I don't know if the girls sing anything any more. I know that Frida (Anni-Frid Lyngstad] was in the studio," adding: "It's not a bad idea, actually."
