Male nursery teacher in sexual abuse allegations

A MALE nursery teacher has been suspended from his post amid allegations of sexual abuse.

The 39-year-old has been removed from his job at Stenhouse Primary's nursery in Edinburgh while separate police and council investigations are carried out.

A spokeswoman for the Lothian and Borders force last night confirmed a man had been charged would appear in court later next month.

The allegations, believed to include assault, are thought to concern one specific youngster.

A spokesman for the City of Edinburgh Council said: "Any members of staff identified in such a complaint are likely to be suspended as a precautionary measure until the investigation is complete."

The police spokeswoman said: "Following an investigation a 39-year-old man has been charged and is due to appear in court on 18 May."

One relative of a child in the nursery class said parents were extremely worried.

"The school wants to stop people from finding out, but when it's your child at risk, I think people need to know," he said.
