Malaria alert for tourists

WINTER sun seekers from the Lothians have been warned about a malaria outbreak in a popular tourist resort.

Health chiefs said many UK travellers to the Gambia in Africa had returned with the potentially fatal illness.

As a result, future visitors have been urged to pursue prescribed anti-malarial treatment only, and not over-the-counter alternatives which have proved to be inadequate because of a strain more resistant to drugs.
