Makeover for 'ugliest town'

ORGANISERS of the award for Scotland's ugliest place are to stage a competition to help change the town which claimed this year's dubious honour.

Leading architects, including global firms RMJM and Aedas, are expected to take part in the contest aimed at transforming Denny, in Stirlingshire.

Residents, who have compared the boarded-up flats in the town to Beirut, claimed the award after organisers of the "Plook on the Plinth" prize could not find anyone to accept it in John O'Groats, the official winner.
