Maid sues over prostitute claims

THE New York City hotel maid at the centre of the Dominique Strauss-Kahn sex assault case has filed a libel lawsuit against the New York Post after it called her a prostitute.

A series of articles over the weekend said the 32-year-old was a "prostitute" and a "hooker" and that she "traded sex for money." The lawsuit says that the statements are false.

A spokeswoman for the Post said it stands by its reporting.
