Magic of Monte Carlo rally to return to Scotland

One of the world's most famous car rallies will return to Glasgow for its centenary in January, resurrecting a city tradition that ended in 1973.

For decades, Glasgow was one of the starting points for the Monte Carlo rally and thousands lined Blythswood Square to wave off the cars on their way to the French Alps.

Now Automobile Club de Monaco has announced the city will again be one of the official starts, 38 years after its last Monte. The news has sparked joy in the campaign team, led by the Caledonian Classic and Historic Motorsport Club.

"Growing up in the 50s and 60s, it was always an ambition of mine to go to Blythswood Square and sample the magic of the Monte Carl rally myself," said CC&HMSC chief, Douglas Anderson. "Now it is an ambition fulfilled and it is fantastic news that we have been able to bring the glamour of the Monte back to Glasgow."
