Councillor Steve Cardownie, Edinburgh’s festivals and events champion, said at the time that securing a Madonna concert in the city would be a “huge coup”.

Madonna, who has sold more than 300 million records worldwide, has never before performed in Scotland but married film director Guy Ritchie at a star- studded Highlands wedding in December 2000.

This week saw the release of Madonna’s new single, “Give Me All Your Luvin” from her highly anticipated new album MDNA on Live Nation/Interscope Records, scheduled to be released on March 26th.

And she wowed a TV audience of 110 million with her half-time performance at the US Superbowl on Sunday night,

The Murrayfield concert is part of The Madonna 2012 World Tour, which begins on May 29 in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Along with Edinburgh the tour will stop in 26 European cities including London, Paris, Milan and Berlin.

The tickets - priced £125,£80,£75,£70,£60 and £45 - will be available from www.livenation.co.uk.

Tour promoter Arthur Fogel said: “Madonna’s track record as a world class entertainer and touring artist speaks for itself. Her artistry, talent and creative productions get bigger and better with each tour and Madonna 2012 will be no exception. We are thrilled to have her back on the road and know her fans feel the same,”
