Low turnout sinks Slovak referendum

A REFERENDUM on whether Slovakia should reduce the number of MPs by one third and limit their immunity has failed due to low voter turnout.

The Slovak statistics office said turnout was 22.84 per cent, far less than the 50 per cent needed for the vote to be valid.

Voters also voted on whether they wanted to be allowed to cast Internet ballots in parliamentary elections.
