Love shines on for platinum pair after 70 years

FOR most people a 70th anniversary refers to a birthday – but yesterday Donald and Betty Locke were celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary.

Donald, 95, and Betty, 90, from Corpach near Fort William were married back in 1940.

They met in Aberdeen in 1937 where Donald was at university and Betty was a dancer in music hall show.

Romance blossomed in the Granite City, and continued in London when Donald joined the Civil Service, and Betty became a Tiller Girl dancer. They were married three years after they met, in St Mary's Church, Paddington, in 1940.

They celebrated their anniversary with relatives from all over the world, including four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
