Lottery funding for project to uncover wealth of Forth

A project to uncover the hidden history, culture and natural wealth of the Forth has been given Heritage Lottery funding.

RSPB Scotland has been awarded just under £2 million for the Inner Forth Landscape Initiative. The charity is part of the project to celebrate the history of the area’s industrial past.

Local government, charities, and agencies are working together with local people to restore and conserve important features of the area for visitors. Along the coastline there is evidence of ancient ports and harbours, salt pans, limekilns, mining and whisky production.

The area is designated as an internationally important site for birds, and provides refuge for thousands of wildfowl and wading birds in the winter.

The Initiative aims to rekindle pride in the area, create a landscape flourishing with wildlife and increase access and knowledge of the area’s heritage.
