Lothians set to cash in on golfing stars

A TOURNAMENT showcasing the best young golfing talent from around the globe is set to bring a major six-figure boost to the Lothians economy.

Businesses, restaurants and hotels are expected to benefit from the US Kids Golf European Championship, which takes place across five courses in East Lothian between 26 and 28 May.

More than 400 youngsters aged between six and 14 will be competing for the title. Competitors are travelling from as far afield as Australia, China, the Philippines, Peru, Puerto Rico and Panama as well as the United States and from across the UK, and with many bringing families, they are expected to spend up to 500,000.

Tournament co-ordinator Alasdair Good said: "When you consider that all of these overseas competitors will bring an average of three to four other family members with them, it's a lot of people visiting East Lothian."
