Lothian leading the way in disabled jobs training

People with disabilities are benefiting from a ground-breaking job training scheme.

The Ready for Retail course is a collaboration between Midlothian Council, Ikea and several other partners, and gives disabled people the chance to earn recognised qualifications to help them into work.

The Ikea store in Straiton currently has 37 people with disabilities on work placements as part of the scheme.

Midlothian's cabinet member for social work, Councillor Jackie Aitchison, said: "Ikea's approach to the professional inclusion and development of people with disabilities is inspirational.
