Lord Provost's dinner ditched

A CONTROVERSIAL gala dinner, billed as Edinburgh's answer to the Lord Mayor's Banquet in London, has been shelved.

The full 40,000 cost of the first Lord Provost's banquet in the Capital was paid by an unnamed benefactor amid protests that the donor may have had secret links with the council.

The local authority has now postponed a follow-up event, which was scheduled to take place in April, following demands to name last year's mystery donor.
