Loft insulation council tax discount goes unclaimed

A SCHEME that gives a council tax discount to anybody who fits loft insulation has not been taken up by anyone, it emerged today.

The city council announced earlier this year that it will give residents 60 off their annual bill if they get Scottish Gas to install loft or cavity wall insulation.

Finance leader Phil Wheeler has confirmed that nobody has yet claimed the discount, but he said: "Promotion of the scheme has just begun with a feature included in the latest Outlook (council publication] and publicity on the council website. Flyers will be placed in libraries, etc, soon to raise awareness.

"The finance department has not, as yet, been notified of any loft insulation discount being claimed. This is not unusual given the lead-in times."
