Crews were called to the site at Loch Choire at Kinbrace, Sutherland, and found a well developed fire in the two-storey property at around 8.20pm yesterday.

Access was difficult for the 20 firefighters as the lodge is along a dirt track, around 11 miles from the nearest road.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said crews pumped water from the loch to fight the fire but the property has been “extensively damaged”, with around 50 per cent of the roof collapsing.

The lodge was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no one was injured.

An investigation into the cause is being carried out by the fire service and police.
