Locals to be asked about sport facilities

SPORT in East Lothian is going under the microscope as a consultation is launched to determine the adequacy of provision in the county.

Residents are to be quizzed for their views on their area's sporting opportunities amid ongoing preparations for the run-up to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014.

East Lothian Council, in partnership with SportScotland, will launch Community Sport Hubs in the six major towns over the next two years to identify areas for improvement.

Cabinet member for Community Wellbeing, Cllr Ruth Currie, said: "The aim of each CSH will be to identify the range of sports and other physical activities available in their community. They will also discover the number of coaches, volunteers, qualified officials and clubs active within their area which will provide them with an overview for their community.

"From this each CSH will develop an action plan that will identify key areas for improvement and actions to be taken to implement these improvements.

"This is a very exciting and innovative approach to the development of sport in local clubs and I hope people take the opportunity to provide their views by completing our survey."
