Local round-up: Snapper can take heart in photo contest

A PHOTO that won a national competition held by the British Heart Foundation is featuring in an exhibition at Sofi's Bar in Henderson Street, Leith.

The Tunnel, by Gillian Hayes, beat hundreds of other entrants to win first prize in the Red for Heart photography competition.

It features a service tunnel full of pipes and wires, with a red, heart-shaped door and wall at the end.

The photograph will be part of the exhibition The Colour Red, which runs at the bar until April 30.

Tribute act is real Diamond

John Hylton, billed as Europe's foremost Neil Diamond tribute act, will perform at the Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh on Thursday.

Hylton, together with his talented band, will play renditions from Diamond's The Jazz Singer album at the concert, which begins at 7.30pm.

Cake sale to raise Japan cash

Cake lovers can indulge while raising money for the Red Cross' Tsunami Appeal for Japan later this month.

The sale will take place at the Quaker Meeting House, Victoria Terrace, on March 26 from 11am. Those interested in donating baked goods can e-mail [email protected].

Landlords home in on new Capital meeting

A NEW event is to be held four times a year in Edinburgh for landlords.

The National Landlords Association is to hold the first of its quarterly events on March 29 at the Apex International Hotel on the Grassmarket at 7.30pm.

Speakers include Alan Sinclair, benefits manager for the city council, who will discuss changes to local housing allowance, and John Davidson, director at Southside Property Management, who will give tips on keeping properties occupied.

Conference to focus on film audiences

A BIANNUAL conference on film audience research will take place this week.

The Edinburgh International Film Audiences Conference aims to provide a space where film audience researchers and others can come together to present completed work and discuss ongoing, as well as future, work.

The conference is at the Filmhouse on Lothian Road tomorrow and Friday. Passes cost 160 for the full two days, or 85 for one day.

Star Wendy in the house

EDINBURGH-based singer and voice coach Wendy Carle Taylor will perform in the city next week.

She will perform at the Bongo Club in Holyrood Road next Friday. The event will run from 7pm to 10pm.

Tickets, which cost 10 and 8, are available from the venue and the Usher Hall box office.
