Local Round-up: 'Royal' tea treat for Marie Curie

MECCA Bingo in Leith Capitol is holding a royal-themed Blooming Great Tea Party on Wednesday 15 June to help raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care, as part of their 2011 partnership with the charity.

The club team members and customers are joining thousands of people across the UK in the event this June and July. To add some sparkle, Mecca is encouraging customers and team members to adopt the royal theme or even dress up as a member of the royal family.

Telford duo selected

TELFORD College students have had their illustrations selected by a health board for a campaign on sexual health.

HND Illustration students Fiona Moffat and Alexander Jackson were chosen by NHS Fife after being given a brief to look at sex and peer pressure issues.

Staunch pops up at Inspace fashion bash

EDINBURGH-based company Staunch Industries is set to host a pop-up shop and exhibition as part of the No Concessions fashion season at Inspace, the University of Edinburgh's media "lab".

The design company will also launch its website and offer visitors the chance to see the 2011 collection.

The collection can be viewed at Inspace, Crichton Street, tomorrow, between 11am and 5pm.

Long road for Navigant team

SIX city financial experts are taking on the gruelling challenge of cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats in a non-stop relay to raise 10,000 for housing charity Shelter Scotland. The team from management consultancy Navigant will start from Sennen in Penzance today.

OneKind gets into the ring for animal rights

AN EDINBURGH-based animal charity yesterday hosted a human circus at Holyrood.

OneKind celebrated the talents of human performers with a demonstration of skills outside the public entrance to the Scottish Parliament building. The event was timed to coincide with a member's debate in the name of MSP Elaine Murray on the use of wild animals in circuses.

OneKind said it wanted to show that animals do not need to suffer in the name of entertainment.
