Local Round-up: Musicians to play city gig

Musicians Frank McLaughlin and Stewart Hardy will perform at the Wee Folk Club beneath the Royal Oak pub in Infirmary Street on February 20.

The long-term collaborators, who play fiddle, guitar and Scottish smallpipes will appear at 8.30pm.

Entry to the gig costs 5 on the door.

Students' play will be a Trial

Franz Kafka's The Trial will be staged at Telford College's new theatre on March 2 and 3.

Students from the HNC acting and performance course will present the play at 2pm and 7pm. Tickets are 8/5 from pass.ed-coll.ac.uk or at the college.

Get pampered and help out fundraisers

A DAY of pampering to raise funds for Save the Children UK and Marie Curie Hospice Edinburgh will be held at the Ghillie Dhu in Rutland Place on February 24.

Filmmakers given 48 hours to get creative

A COMPETITION will be held at the Forest Cafe in Bristo Place to see who can produce the best short film in 48 hours.

The 48 Hour Film Hunt launches at 8pm on February 25, when contestants will be given a genre and location for their film. All entries must be submitted by February 27, and will be screened immediately, with the jury and audience choosing the winners.

A free filmmaking workshop will be held at the cafe on February 18. For more information contact [email protected].

Ryanair marks six millionth passenger

BUDGET airline Ryanair has celebrated its six millionth passenger at Edinburgh Airport, ten years after beginning its operations there.

The carrier launched its operations from Edinburgh with one route to Dublin in 2001.

Kevin Brown, the airport's managing director, said: "We're proud to reach this fantastic milestone."

Ryanair's Maria Macken added: "Ryanair has gone from strength to strength at Edinburgh since 2001."
