Local Round-up: Music group hosts ceilidh

The Scots Music Group will host a ceilidh at the St Bride's Centre in Orwell Terrace on February 26.

The event will include music from Da Hooley Ceilidh Band and a licensed bar will be available. Doors open at 7.30pm, tickets are available in advance for 8/6 from www.scotsmusic.org or 0131-346 1405.

On March 2, a book group will be held at The Edinburgh Bookshop in Bruntsfield and on March 4, author Jasper Fforde will be signing copies of One of Our Thursdays is Missing at Waterstone's in the West End.

Be good to yourself and charity

There will be an afternoon of pampering in aid of cancer charity It's Good 2 Give at the Radisson SAS Hotel.

Queen Tea will feature beauty treatments, afternoon tea, a Zumba taster session and raffle. The event runs from noon to 2pm on March 19.

Hospice looks to cook up recipes for new book

St Columba's Hospice is appealing for casserole recipes for a new fundraising cookbook.

Cracking Casseroles will be the hospice's third recipe book. Previous contributions have been submitted by day hospice patients and staff, but the hospice is now appealing for supporters to suggest their own favourite recipes.

The book will be released in time for Christmas. Along with previous titles, Super Soups and Tasty Treats, it will be sold for 2.50 from the hospice's charity bookshops.

Tribute night in memory of Scots soldier

A TRIBUTE evening in memory of a poet, songwriter and soldier who played a pivotal role in the revival of folk music in Scotland will be held in the Capital tonight.

The Hamish Henderson tribute evening will take place at the Central Library from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

Visitors can learn about Mr Henderson's life.

Mr Henderson's biographer, Timothy Neat, will attend the event.

Curlers sweep up grand total at fundraiser

EDINBURGH curlers raised 1078 at the annual St Valentine's Bonspiel, which was followed by a raffle at Murrayfield Curling Club, in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

This brings the total raised over nine years of the event, organised by Gordon Dean, to 7300.

Mr Dean, who lives in Corstorphine, is a member of the Veterans' Curling Club.

The bonspiel, which took place last Friday, was won by the Veterans' B team.
