Local Round-Up: House plans to be given green light

PLANS for a new house to replace two driveways near Mortonhall look set to get the go-ahead.

Councillors are due to make a decision on the proposal to replace the driveways, which serve neighbouring properties on Alnwickhill Grove, with a two-storey detached home.

Planning officials have recommended that the proposals get the go-ahead, but councillors will make a final decision next Wednesday.

Musicians studying at Napier and Edinburgh universities will hold a concert in aid of Unicef at St Cuthbert's Cathedral, Lothian Road, on March 23.

The event, which begins at 7.30pm, costs 5/3 on the door. It is hosted by Edinburgh University's Unicef on Campus group and Unicef Scottish Borders.

Get in step for Zumba-thon

A ZUMBA-THON is set to take place in West Lothian this weekend.

The event will be held at East Calder Church Hall on Saturday, from 11.30am to 1.30pm.

It will help fund a trip to the United States to represent Team Scotland in cheerleading and hip-hop at next month's world championships.

The first is on March 28 at The Playfair in the Omni Centre, while the second is during the Wetherspoon's Real Ale Festival, at the Blacksmith's Forge, Dalkeith.

Carers to quiz MSPs over election proposals

HUNDREDS of carers are set to grill MSPs about changes they would make if they are elected.

Organised by city charity Voice of Carers Across Lothian, the event will see up to 200 people attending the Roxburghe Hotel on Monday.

Nearly 100 questions have already been submitted and among those being quizzed will be Public Health Minister Shona Robison.

Issues such as care allowances and the future of council-run services are set to feature in the debate.

Tasty trailer hits road to curry favour

PEOPLE in the Capital are being urged to keep an eye out for the Love Curry trailer.

This year's Love Curry presents The Scottish Curry Awards are taking place in May at the Thistle Hotel, Glasgow, and the trailer will be in Edinburgh on March 23.

Yasmin Mahmood, events organiser for the awards, said: "Every year we take to the streets to hand out freebies. This year, anyone who fills out a short nomination form will walk away with a wee bottle of Irn-Bru or Strathmore water."
