Local Round-up: Guitarist set to perform at benefit gig

A CLASSICAL guitarist from Edinburgh is set to perform as part of a benefit concert for the victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.

Sean Shibe, 19, who has performed for the Dalai Lama and recently won the prestigious Royal Over-Seas League String Award, will join a number of singers and instrumentalists for the concert at the Glasgow University Chapel tomorrow, from 3pm to 4.30pm.

Curlers from across the world arrive in city

Murrayfield Curling Rink is this weekend hosting sportsmen and women from across the world for the 7th Murrayfield International Curlers Gathering.

Curlers from Europe and Canada have travelled to the Capital to go head to head with some of Edinburgh's local curlers to make up the 28 teams, meaning more than 100 curlers are taking part.

Organiser Colin McCall, of Penicuik Curling Club, said: "We are very excited about the competition, having attracted such an array of nations."

Motorcyclist is hurt on bridge

A MOTORCYCLIST injured his wrist and hip after an accident just before the Forth Road Bridge.

The incident happened yesterday at 4pm, causing tailbacks for a short amount of time.

Nobody else was involved.

The rider was taken to Queen Margaret Hospital, in Dunfermline.

Enjoy bhangra and blues at charity event

A CHARITY gig featuring a blues band, bhangra dancers and sixties music is being held tonight to raise money for the Canongate Youth Project.

Dubbed "Music, Mystery and Mayhem", the concert is aimed at supporting the youth project, based in the South Bridge Resource Centre, which provides help and advice to youngsters aged five to 21 as well as open access youth clubs. Tickets for the 7pm to 10pm concert cost 8 (6) and can be purchased on the Bongo Club website.

Samba band aim for new record

Scotland's largest youth samba band is set to travel from Leith to Barnsley today to become part of a huge samba band in a world record attempt.

The Pulse of the Place, based out of Duncan Place Resource Centre, Leith, is hoping to help set a new record.
