Local round-up: Fundraising gig in aid of MS Society

Students from Heriot-Watt University are organising a gig to raise funds for the MS Society Scotland. The night of entertainment on April 6 will feature performances from bands including My Tiny Robots, Ghost Ride the Whip and Chris Hunter, along with a DJ playing until late.

It will be held at Electric Circus on Market Street, with doors opening at 7.30pm.

Tickets are 5 on the door, with use of the Guitar Hero and karaoke rooms during the evening included.

Cash boost for health agency

THE Wester Hailes Health Agency is to receive a donation of almost 350 from Deer Park Golf and Country Club in Livingston after an alternative and beauty therapy day and craft exhibition.

The money from the event will go towards the cost of a special therapy room at the agency.

Nearly new sale at church

There will be a sale of nearly new children's books, clothes, nursery equipment and toys at Polwarth Church in Polwarth Terrace from 11am to 1pm on April 2. Entry is by donation.

Photography students in frame for prize

THREE photography students from Stevenson College have been selected for the final of a national award.

Paddy Henderson, Timea Porubszky and Hamish Campbell have been nominated in the portrait category of the Association of Photographers Student Awards.

Alan McEwan, head of photography at Stevenson, said: "To have three students selected for this exhibition is a fantastic achievement".

Festival offers beer fans a taste of the world

BEER enthusiasts can enjoy up to 50 real ales from the UK and overseas during a 19-day festival at six pubs in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Participating pubs include The Standing Order and The Alexander Graham Bell, both in George Street, The Playfair in the Omni Centre, The Foot of the Walk in Leith's Constitution Street, The Blacksmith's Forge on Newmills Road in Dalkeith and The James Young in Hopetoun Street, Bathgate.

The festival will run from tomorrow until April 10.

Free talk on Spanish artists

A FREE lecture on two great Spanish artists, Velazquez and Picasso, is to be held at the National Gallery in Edinburgh.

Marjorie Trusted, Senior Curator of Sculpture at the V&A, will examine Picasso's interaction with Velzquez's Las Meninas on Thursday, March 24, at 6pm.
